Thank you Iron Man for coming to Verona Wisconsin

I just spent a wonderful day enjoying the Ironman competition in our very own Verona.  Actually I got up early to see the start in Madison when 2600 athletes started with a splash in Lake Monona, followed by a short 2.4 mile swim.

Next a 112 bike ride, which in large part is based in Verona.  For  the most part the locals are very welcoming, but there are a few grouches who worry that they can not get to church or some place, or their business misses some dollars.    But be the crowds that turn out, the Verona bike ride is a good thing.

I love to see the athletes. We had breakfast at Grays Tied House, where we had a balcony view of the race.  Then followed by a nap- it is hard work watching!!- we went into Madison to see a wonderful finish,  a 26 mile run.

I so appreciate the inspiration provided by so many athletes who have dedicated themselves to the event.  Whether professional or one time amateurs, they all garner my respect.

And my message to Verona, these athletes bring large amounts of money to the area for many months prior to the event, training, hotel stays, restaurants,  bike shops, training facilities.  I am sure this money has a knock-on effect to others.

And the cyclists leave with a great fondness for the community, and that is worth more than any amount of advertizing.
